The mission is to help preserve the biodiversity of the SANCTUARY OF FAUNA AND FLORA MALPELO, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2006. PROTECT MALPELO-SILKY develop a global media resource and educational outreach campaign to activate social and political change, work with scientists, eco-tourism enterprises and high profile partners to secure the future of this oceanic jewel.

How this project works?

The FBCC is dedicated to the preservation of the biodiversity in Colombia, through alliances with other NOGs and government institutions. One of the main projects that is now being executed in the pacific side of Colombia, the conservation of the SANCTUARY OF FAUNA AND FLORA MALPELO by providing the rangers a vessel and a zodiac they can use as platform to fulfill their duties inside the area.

What are we proposing?

The island’s geology makes it impossible to pull small and nimble patrol vessels onto the safety of dry land in the case of adverse weather conditions. Therefore, patrols can only be conducted either by ocean-going motor vessels, with size-able engines and extremely high capital and maintenance costs. Our operation will be based on the latter method, using a 55ft catamaran as a mother vessel from which we will launch a 15ft semi-rigid Milpro zodiac used by the rangers to control and surveillance of the area and immediately alert the navy for interceptions and start legal procedures agains the infractions.
